C. Russell Cox is a partner in the Indianapolis law firm of Cox, Sargeant & Burns, P.C. Mr. Cox concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate law, transactions, and tax-exempt organizations.
General: Born in 1957; admitted to Indiana bar in 1986, Illinois bar in 1988.

  • Serve as general counsel for private companies; advise clients regarding a broad range of legal, financial and business issues; organize and participate in board meetings and strategic planning sessions.

  • Represent businesses in the negotiation for and merger or acquisition of businesses or product lines; analyze and recommend the most tax-effective structure for the transaction.

  • Assist clients with the expansion or start-up of businesses; develop plans to attract capital; ensure SEC and blue sky compliance; devise compensation plans for founders and key executives.

  • Serve as general counsel to large tax-exempt organizations, including national trade associations and professional societies; organize and obtain tax-exempt status for charitable and educational foundations; advise organizations on unrelated business income and governance issues. General Counsel to Indiana Society of Association Executives.

  • Counsel clients on intellectual property matters; prepare and negotiate domestic and international licensing agreements and software development agreements; represent companies in connection with trademark registrations or disputes; develop comprehensive plans to protect and expand intellectual property for clients.
